Shaygan Kheradpir’s Journey to Coriant

Born in London, England in 1960, the son of an otorhinolaryngologist, Shaygan Kheradpir is now the CEO of a major telecommunications company. Kheradpir graduated from Cornell University, where he studied electrical engineering, earning a Bachelor’s, Master’s and a doctoral degree. Prior to becoming CEO of Coriant, Shaygan Kheradpir worked at various companies including Verizon and Juniper Networks.

Coriant was formed in 2013, and now is home to around 3,000 employees. Coriant specializes in producing and selling hardware and software to data and mobile networks. The products they sell are used by many of the nation’s most popular cell phone and internet providers. Dealing primarily in products made for an optical transport network, Coriant can take claim to the rapid technological advances that we have seen in recent years in regards to the infrastructure of mobile and land based internet providers. The company named Kheradpir it’s CEO in October of 2015.

Prior to his lead position at Coriant, Kheradpir became the president of Verizon’s e-business division, soon after GTE merged with Bell Atlantic to form Verizon Communications in 2000. Kheradpir and his team spearheaded Verizon into the prominence they have today, they were a major part of the development of Verizon’s FiOS, a fiber optic infrastructure that reaches throughout the United States.

From 2011-2014, it seemed as though every communications company in the country wanted Shaygan Kheradpir as a part of their team. In 2011, Kheradpir briefly joined Barclays, a retail bank, based out of his place of birth, London. Kheradpir spent only 3 years with the company before he shifted back to the networking and communications field, joining Juniper Networks in 2014. He instantly was made CEO of this Silicon Valley company, where he developed a cost-cutting plan.

Kheradpir would then again briefly switch homes, Marlin Equity Partners. His stay with Marlin was cut short when Marlin founded Coriant. Kheradpir was named CEO of Coriant and chairman of the board. Since the creation of this global leader, Kheradpir has taken the company under his wing, propelling it into heights unimaginable by Marlin when the company was first created. Kheradpir remains the CEO of Coriant to this day, perhaps he has finally found a place he can call home.
